Traveling Science Workshop Instructor

Join the growing team of instructors who bring Discovery Museum’s Traveling Science Workshops (TSW) to school classrooms! Instructors travel to schools throughout Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Rhode Island visiting with up to five classrooms of 25 students a day, two to five days each week for 3 to 8 hours each day. Instructors engage children in meaningful hands-on STEM explorations that enrich classroom learning and support current state curriculum on various physical science topics from Bubbles to Sound to Force and Motion.

Applicants must have experience teaching children in formal or informal settings and be friendly, dynamic, high-energy, and passionate about supporting children’s learning. They will be strong communicators who are highly organized and able to juggle multiple demands at one time. Instructors must be flexible and responsive to the needs of administrators, teachers, parent volunteers, and students. Background working with diverse constituencies and an ability to speak multiple languages strongly valued.

Responsibilities:

  • Travel up to 60 minutes one-way to lead multiple 45- to 60-minute hands-on STEM workshops per day in preschool, elementary, and middle school classrooms. Must have driver’s license and the use of a reliable vehicle.
  • Coordinate with the Materials Preparation Manager to keep a set of workshop kits stocked and well-maintained with both permanent and consumable materials.
  • Maintain regular weekly communication with School Programs Team regarding monthly schedules, material needs, general program feedback, and specific school interactions.
  • Collaborate with other TSW instructors and our School Programs Administration Team to maintain a strong learning community that promotes effective science inquiry practice and provides outstanding enrichment for schools and groups.

Schedule: This position has a flexible schedule Monday through Friday, 2 to 5 days per week, varying hours of 3 to 8 hours per day.
